Chapter 42 Slaughter House
Jake and Myriad Arrows stepped in front of the giant portal at the center of the city.
Jake then tinkered with the setting, and chose the kingdom that they were traveling to.
"Are you sure though? Leaving all of these guild members on their own without any supervision? Do you really trust them enough to do their job?" Myriad Arrows asked.
"Don\'t worry. There are those who want to work, those who want to get money, and those who are lazy. We just weed out the bad eggs slowly. But with the group captain role on the line, I am sure that many will try to prove themselves." Jake smiled as he scrolled down the list of numerous kingdoms.
Finally, he stopped at not a kingdom, but a small island.
"There we are. Sparta." Jake said.
"Sparta? Don\'t tell me. Is that the Greek city of warriors, Sparta? A re-creation of that?" Myriad Arrows suddenly lit up.
"Yup. That\'s exactly where we are going." Jake nodded and he tapped on the name, paying the requisite amount.
Both of them passed through the portal and they were no longer in the Loviel Empire.
The moment that they passed through the portal, they were greeted by a warm sun. It was afternoon here, as compared to the morning in Loviel.
World Online took the real world into account so much that it created time zones and different positions of the sun in this fake reality.
Without any clouds, just the blue sky and the sun at the center, hanging on top of them, it was hot. Jake and Myriad Arrows looked around.
Where they looked, they could only see the sea. They were almost at the coastline. The portal that they just exited was on an elevated surface, and the beach lay before them. But the portal was supposed to be at the center of the island, was it not?
"Where the hell are we? Did we come to the wrong place?" Myriad Arrows wondered as he turned around. The portal was right there, blocking his view.
He moved to the side to see what was behind that. And that was when he saw it. His eyes bulged as he laid his eyes on the single centerpiece of the small island called Sparta.
"They brought the Colosseum here? You have to be kidding me. There is no way that they digitized something like the colosseum! Italy would be so pissed!" Myriad Arrows was shocked as he looked at the fifty meter tall building.
It encompassed his entire field of view because the building was just a few meters away from him. They could just walk there in minutes.
"I told you that telling you where we were going would ruin the surprise. You have to trust me, dear Myriad Arrows." Jake smiled as he started walking towards the Colosseum.
"Wait, so are we going to battle different people inside? We can be gladiators?" he asked.
"You are going to have a slight disadvantage, seeing that you use a bow, but you should be able to take care of your opponents." Jake nodded.
"Well then, what are we waiting for? Let us go and fight!" he shouted as he rushed towards the colosseum. But Jake grabbed his collar, dragging him back.
"Calm down. There are two things that we need to do before we go downstairs and start playing." Jake said.
"What are those? This is just a hunting ground, right? I just need to go in there and kill people." Myriad Arrows asked.
"Not so easy. This is a colosseum. That means there is a chance to meet other players here as well. Though I highly doubt that anyone entered here right now. After all, when the first players come here, they will go against NPCs who are much higher leveled than they are." Jake said.
"So then what do we need to do now?" Myriad Arrows asked.
"Well, there is the registration. We need to register as gladiators. And then, are you confident that you are going to win?"
"What kind of question is that? Why would I come all the way here to lose levels? Of course, I can win a few matches at least." Myriad Arrows said.
"Good. Then we can bet on ourselves as well. Let us go then." Jake said as he walked around the colosseum as if he knew the route to perfection.
"Have you been here before? Are you like a beta tester? You know a lot of things that no one else knows." Myriad Arrows suddenly asked.
"Right! Beta testers also have some information beforehand. That makes so much sense now!" Jake thought to himself, but he smiled at Myriad Arrows.
If that answer was going to shut him up, then it was best if Myriad Arrows thought that Jake was a beta tester then.
Jake stopped and looked at the arch that led into the colosseum. Although there were so many other arches that led into the colosseum, they would enter the battlefield through that route.
And it would be a pity if they didn\'t register before starting the fight. A difference between the colosseum and the other training grounds was that once someone registered, they could earn money by winning. But many people thought that they could just enter, so they didn\'t register and lost out on a lot of money.
As they walked into the arch, they saw a desk with a lazy man slouched on his chair and his legs on the desk with his eyes closed.
He was sleeping, but Jake did not disturb him. Instead, he took out a spare item that he had lying around and threw it at the distance.
Clang!
The sudden sound startled the man awake.
"What the hell was that? Who the hell woke me up?" the lazy man opened his eyes and was clearly angry.
